At an Antarctic research station, a cryogenically enhanced tungsten steel cutting blade has been successfully deployed for slicing ice core sample packaging bags.

Traditional blades become brittle in extreme cold, prone to chipping and contaminating samples.

 The new blade incorporates a specialized cobalt-bonded phase formulation, maintaining both toughness and sharpness even at -60°C.

Researchers stated, “Every cut is crucial for data integrity—there is zero room for error.” This “blade of the ice plains” now safeguards Earth’s climate records.
