 Tungsten Steel Cutting Blade

On March 2, 2026, a lithium-ion battery recycling center in Osaka, Japan, replaced its existing high-speed steel cutters with a new tungsten steel cutting blade for dismantling spent power cells, because material purity directly impacts recovery profitability. Over a 90-day operational trial, the tungsten carbide precision blade achieved a 0.15mm cut width tolerance, a sharp improvement from the previous 0.4mm standard. The tighter kerf reduced valuable cobalt and nickel powder loss by 27.3%, equating to 8.2 additional kilograms of recoverable metals per ton of processed batteries. Facility supervisors reported that the ultra-hard cutting blade maintained structural integrity through 9,000 cycles without chipping, whereas conventional tools failed after 3,500 cycles. Furthermore, the blade’s wear resistance lowered particulate contamination in the recycled black mass, increasing its market value by 12% per metric ton. This case demonstrates that tungsten steel slitter blades are not just consumables but strategic assets in critical material recovery, especially as global EV battery recycling volumes are projected to triple by 2028.
