How to Choose the Right High-Speed Steel Cutting Blades for Bamboo Product Manufacturing? (Part 2)

Selecting Blade Types and Sizes Based on Usage

Cutting Applications:

For Processing Raw Bamboo:
If the primary task is cutting raw bamboo, a long-bladed straight knife is recommended, typically with a blade length of 20–30 cm. This length provides sufficient leverage and cutting force to handle thicker bamboo stalks. The straight design also allows for more effective force application during cutting, ensuring smoother and more efficient processing.

For Cutting Bamboo Strips:
A shorter curved knife, with a blade length of 10–15 cm, is more suitable. The curved shape aligns better with ergonomics and the natural curvature of bamboo, making it easier to follow the grain while splitting bamboo into strips.

Carving Applications:

For Fine Carving:
Small high-speed steel carving knives are ideal, such as skew chisels or gouges with a tip angle of 15–30 degrees. Skew chisels excel at carving straight lines, such as text or leaf veins, while gouges are better suited for rounded patterns like animal eyes or flower petals. These carving knives typically have a blade length of 5–10 cm, allowing for precise control over depth and positioning.

For Openwork Carving:
Specialized curved knives, such as hook knives, are essential. Their uniquely shaped, curved blades can reach into the bamboo interior to remove material and create hollow patterns. Hook knives generally come in blade lengths of 10–15 cm, depending on specific requirements.

Bamboo Weaving Applications:

For Processing Bamboo Strips:
thin-bladed slicer is commonly used for shaving bamboo into uniform strips. These blades are narrow, typically 2–5 cm in width, and thin (about 1–2 mm in thickness), allowing for precise control over the thickness of the strips.

For Trimming Bamboo Strips During Weaving:
A small straight-bladed scissors-style knife is practical for on-the-go adjustments. With a blade length of 5–8 cm, its scissor-like design offers flexibility and ease of use when trimming strips to length or shaping them for intricate patterns.
