In February 2026, a gradient-structured tungsten carbide cutting blade—with cobalt content gradually increasing from the surface to the core—completed validation at a solid-state battery pilot production line in the Yangtze River Delta region.

During slitting of sulfide-based electrolyte composite films (50 μm thick), the blade achieved a single-edge lifespan of 2.58 million cuts, with burr height consistently maintained at ≤6 μm.

According to the White Paper on Solid-State Battery Manufacturing Processes, conventional homogeneous blades are prone to chipping due to brittleness, resulting in a yield rate below 85%. In contrast, the gradient design optimizes stress distribution, boosting the yield rate to 99.2%.

This tungsten carbide cutting blade has now been included in China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) Catalog of Key Materials for New Energy Storage.
