Analysis of Material Cutting Process

  1. Contact Phase
The rotary cutter is pressed vertically onto the material surface, with the blade edge making contact to create a localized high-pressure point.

  2. Rolling Phase
As the cutter is pushed forward and rolls, the high-pressure point moves sequentially along the cutting line with the rotation of the blade. Under this rolling pressure, the material gradually separates (similar to the principle of a rolling pin flattening dough, but with greater pressure concentrated at the edge).

  3. Separation Effect
Since the rolling motion is continuous and uniform, the force applied to the material during cutting is evenly distributed. This results in fewer burrs and a smoother cut edge (particularly suitable for curved cuts, avoiding the uneven edges caused by repeated cutting with traditional blades).

The core principle of plastic rotary cutters lies in leveraging the low-resistance characteristic of rolling friction and the pressure concentration effect at the blade edge to achieve efficient "cutting while rolling" on flexible materials. This design makes them particularly suitable for curved and continuous cutting scenarios. However, due to the limitations of the plastic material, they are only applicable to soft materials and cannot replace metal blades for cutting hard objects.
